The ideal tech stack for a B2B e-commerce project.

There is no universal stack. Be wary of anyone who sells you “the” solution before even understanding your business. That said, for a B2B e-commerce project, there is a set of coherent, proven choices that answer very specific requirements: complex customer accounts, negotiated pricing, reordering, and a heavy dependence on your management system.
The real trap isn’t choosing the wrong technology. It’s assembling trendy bricks that don’t fit together. A stack isn’t a shopping list, it’s a system: what matters is how the pieces communicate. Here, layer by layer, is the stack we consider ideal for B2B at ATI4 — and why.
The commerce core: Adobe Commerce or Magento
Everything starts with the platform, and for B2B, Adobe Commerce (Magento) starts with a head start: the B2B features are native, with no third-party extension to stack on. Company accounts and user hierarchies, shared catalogs with tiered and contract pricing, quick order by SKU, negotiable quotes, purchase-order approval workflows, requisition lists, customer credit: everything that defines the specificity of business-to-business selling is built into the platform.
This is what distinguishes a real B2B foundation from a B2C site cobbled together for the occasion. On another platform, these functions are paid for as third-party modules that age badly; here, they’re part of the product.
That leaves the choice of edition. Adobe Commerce (on PaaS, or now on SaaS with Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service) brings the enterprise functions and the vendor’s support. Magento Open Source, or its community fork Mage-OS, suits projects that want control and cost management without giving up the ecosystem. The right choice depends on your size, your integrations and your need for customization — but in every case, you stay within the same technical DNA.
performance hyvä
A solid core isn’t enough if the site is slow. And in B2B, performance isn’t a luxury: a buyer who recomposes a fifty-line order every week won’t forgive sluggishness.
That’s where Hyvä, comes in, now the de facto standard for the Magento front end. Its original promise is simple: much lighter and faster pages, a maintainable codebase, without the complexity or cost of a full “headless” architecture. Concretely, Adobe Commerce paired with the Hyvä theme — and the catalog service for fast reads — delivers most of the benefits of a composable architecture without paying its price. For most B2B projects, it’s already the best performance/complexity ratio on the market.
But Hyvä is no longer just a theme. It has become a genuine commerce ecosystem, and that’s what Hyvä Commerce covers. Where the theme handles display and speed, Hyvä Commerce adds the building blocks a team needs to run the store day to day, without going back to Magento’s heavy back office: a content and page management system to build and edit pages autonomously, visual merchandising tools to organize collections and highlights, image editing, and a performance layer pushed even further. The logic is the same as the theme’s — remove friction — but applied this time to the work of marketing and e-commerce teams.
To this is added Hyvä Checkout, a checkout funnel redesigned to be fast and smooth all the way to payment — a critical point in B2B, where the cart is often large and every superfluous step costs a conversion.
The value of this set — theme, Checkout, Commerce — is coherence: a single philosophy of lightness and speed, from the first product display to order confirmation, and teams that gain autonomy over content without degrading performance. For a B2B project, that’s exactly what you want: a fast front end for the buyer, and a platform the internal teams can steer themselves.
Product data: Akeneo (PIM)
A B2B catalog is rarely simple: many SKUs, dozens of technical attributes, variants, multilingual product sheets, content distributed across multiple channels. Managing all that directly in the ERP or in Magento is a recipe for inconsistency.
A PIM like Akeneo then becomes the single source of truth for your product information. It centralizes, structures and makes your product sheets reliable before distributing them cleanly to the site. The benefit is twofold: your teams enrich faster, and your data is clean enough to be used everywhere — including, tomorrow, by the search engines and AIs that will read your catalog.
The link with your information system
This is the point that’s always underestimated, and yet: in B2B, the center of gravity isn’t the site, it’s the ERP. It’s the ERP that holds the negotiated prices, the customer accounts, the outstanding balances, the stock. The site is just a smart storefront sitting on top of it.
The real complexity — and the real budget — of a B2B project often lies in the integration with the information system (ERP, CRM), far more than in the front end. A well-designed integration layer, one that clearly defines which data is authoritative and at what rhythm it flows, is what separates a reliable platform from a source of constant incidents. It’s a subject in its own right, but it’s the crux of the matter.
Hosting and delivery
A fine stack, poorly hosted, stays fragile. On the infrastructure side, we work notably with Upsun (of which we are partners), which offers controlled development, staging and production environments, with “infrastructure as code” to avoid drift between environments.
Around it, a continuous integration and deployment pipeline lets you ship often, fast and without breakage. On a B2B project where features are added regularly, being able to deploy to production in one or two hours, without stress, changes the teams’ lives. Add to that observability: knowing in real time how the platform is behaving, before the customer notices.
Search and merchandising
A B2B buyer searches by reference, by technical characteristic, by use. An approximate search is a lost sale. The native search engine (OpenSearch / Elasticsearch) already covers the need well; for very large catalogs or advanced merchandising requirements, a specialized solution can complement it. What matters is that the search speaks your customers’ language, not that of your internal category tree.
Compliance and measurement
Two bricks people forget and that cost dearly later. Consent management (CMP) to stay GDPR-compliant without degrading the experience, and an analytics solution — we’re happy to use Matomo — to steer on the indicators that truly count in B2B: quote submissions, reorder rate, account logins, spec-sheet downloads, and above all orders correctly transmitted to the ERP. The classic conversion rate tells only a small part of the story.
Ready for AI and agentic commerce
A stack designed in 2026 must anticipate what’s next. Two axes: on one side, augmented development — AI that speeds up code comprehension, module generation and testing, with human validation; on the other, preparation for agentic commerce, meaning structured, exposable product data so that AI agents can, tomorrow, discover and order your products. The good news: a clean, well-integrated stack is, by nature, already half ready for it.
The real secret: coherence
Remember this: adding up the best bricks doesn’t make a good stack. What makes a good stack is their coherence — tools that speak the same language, integrations that hold, a clear source of truth for each piece of data. It’s also why, below a certain volume, a well-integrated “monolithic” foundation like Adobe Commerce + Hyvä often stays more cost-effective than a fragmented composable architecture: fewer moving parts, fewer breaking points, a controlled total cost.
The ideal stack, then, isn’t the most impressive on paper. It’s the one whose components were chosen to work together, in the service of your B2B business.
our approach
At ATI4, we don’t slap a ready-made stack onto your project. We start from your reality — your customers, your pricing, your ERP, your volumes — and we assemble the bricks that fit together: Adobe Commerce or Magento at the core, Hyvä at the front, Akeneo for the data, a robust IS integration, solid hosting and CI/CD. Because we master each of these layers end to end, we know what should live where — and what, misplaced, will cost dearly later. A good B2B stack isn’t the one people talk about the most. It’s the one that keeps your commerce running without you having to think about it.
