Hyvä et Adobe Commerce

The dynamics of e-commerce are evolving rapidly, with the primary goal of businesses being to provide an optimal customer experience to maximize conversion rates and, most importantly, sales. For the past two years, a new solution has been making waves: it’s the Hyvä solution and its Hyvä Reset theme.

Hyvä is a front-end theme for Adobe Commerce, distinguished by its modular approach and lightweight design. Engineered to leverage best practices in web development, Hyvä offers a modern front-end architecture based on Vue.js technology. This integration also simplifies the upgrade of existing sites, enabling a smooth transition to new versions without impacting the user experience.

Based on Magento 2’s native modules (“Hyva”), it completely removes JavaScript and CSS dependencies from a website. In essence, the solution optimizes website performance, strengthens SEO ranking, enhances site visibility, and consequently, increases sales. With this new solution come various products like Hyvä Themes, Hyvä UI, Hyvä Checkout, and Hyvä Enterprises. These elements allow:

  • Enhancing user experience and customer satisfaction
  • Increasing Web Performance Optimization (WPO) related to web referencing (SEO and SEA)
  • Boosting conversion rates due to platform speed
  • Reducing bounce rates with minimal waiting times
  • Ensuring compatibility across different devices and mobile connections (such as 3G)
  • Reducing environmental impact by decreasing server load

Adobe Commerce and its Challenges 🤔

Magento, now Adobe Commerce, is a flexible and scalable e-commerce platform suitable for both B2B and B2C clients. Its main distinctive feature is its flexibility and adaptability to companies of all sizes. However, certain challenges related to front-end performance persist and can negatively impact the user experience and, most importantly, the conversion rate. While Adobe Commerce (formerly Magento) offers a stable, robust, and powerful platform, it is resource-intensive and can be quite slow due to a large number of server requests.

This weight increases further after the development and contribution phase, during which elements such as a custom theme, products, CMS content, and third-party applications like Google Analytics, AB Tasty, Algolia, ZenDesk, etc., are added. Considering that each of these elements calls for its resources (images, styles, fonts, etc.), the final site’s weight could quickly reach 10 MB, generating over 300 server requests. Site performance, particularly its speed, could suffer. This is where the Hyvä theme comes into play.

The main challenge for the development team is to rewrite this view without making the site heavy by reverting to Magento’s native theme. To achieve this, we use technologies like Tailwind CSS or Alpine.js, a micro-framework developed in 2019 known for its lightweight, only 7 KB. This tool simplifies tasks such as rewriting all UI components, natively generated by Knockout and jQuery UI (accordions, dropdown menus, etc.).

Furthermore, the solution includes best practices, particularly regarding images, which often consume web performance. It adopts approaches like adding the loading=”lazy” attribute to all theme inline images and using inline SVG images. These choices significantly reduce page weight.

For example, on a typical homepage, Adobe Commerce’s native theme can generate about 250 requests and weigh approximately 2 MB. In comparison, a Hyvä theme reduces the number of requests to only 15, about 15 times less, and the page’s weight to only 0.5 MB, about 4 times less. This weight reduction allows achieving much higher performance than a standard theme.

The evening was marked by the presence of several Magento and AdobeCommerce web agencies from France, opening discussions on market trends and the vision for 2024. Renowned guests such as Renaud Raffaelli and Régis QUINTIN shared their insights with the Adobe Commerce suite, sparking debates about the future of online commerce. Philippe Daly shared the latest trends and growth prospects related to Black Friday.

So, what do we take away? Hyvä is an ideal solution for all businesses seeking high and comprehensive performance for their e-commerce site. A breath of fresh air for platforms under Adobe Commerce, Hyvä promises an efficient system with optimization in terms of time, budget, and user experience.
